Mike Lee

I chose Norwich because of its uniquely intimate setting, organic-type learning, and sports.
My relationship with the faculty is very friendly, not formal at all. All of the faculty are very approachable. The intense deadlines in combination with a very casual work environment truly catylize the production of good work.

Hands on learning experiences are plentiful at the least. The faculty make every effort to provide unique charrettes from fabric concrete courses to sketching school. I went on a 2 week trip abroad to Paris, Bilbao, Madrid and Barcelona with an architecture professor and an art teacher with just 9 other students. I've also spent a week in Maine during a 3 credit sketching course. The school makes every effort to provide learning in any aspect of architecture.

Norwich's School of Architecture is more than I expected. The school is like a family, and the faculty are there learning along side the students. Sure the work is intense, but the environment is so casual it makes it easy. You want to work hard here. You want to try new things. This is a quality that I never expected.

I've enjoyed Passive Design, Active Building Systems, and most of all Studio.

I'm a Norwich athlete and I play soccer outside of the studio. The studio is such a casual yet intense environment that you become really close to other students, so there's always something to do outside of studio and someone to do it with.

My favorite memory isn't just a single one. It's realy just the night before a presentation. The studio is packed and there's music blaring, you've got that excited scared feeling as your trying to finish drawings and models. But knowing that your friends are right next to you working their butts off too just makes it worth it. It's crazy, but its good crazy.
